Rural Busines Unit, Cambridge University

A Consortium comprising the Universities of Cambridge, Exeter, Nottingham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Reading, Imperial College and Askham Bryan College carry out the annual Farm Business Survey commissioned by the government. Pelican Computing automated data extraction from the survey to provide the Government Office Regional Reports. Pelican Computing work with Cambridge University Rural Business Unit programming staff so that they now have the skills to update and add new features themselves. With Pelican Computing's help they have also taken on in-house software written for the Survey by Defra. The pages are available at http://www.farmbusinesssurvey.co.uk.
 

Prospect Management Services (PMS)

PMS provides marketing and business strategy consulting services in food, agribusiness and related bioscience sectors. Pelican Computing designed software for PMS that is used on the Internet by companies to analyse and compare business data and practices. It has a generic design so that it can be used by Prospect Management's clients from multiple industries. Web data collection forms are designed by Prospect Management in consultation with their clients. Data can be filled out on the Internet or posted from Excel and local software through Web Services. Results are viewed online. Tools are available to manage the large number of users.

The software developed by Pelican Computing is also used by www.mycake.org. This is a web-site offering benchmarking and book-keeping for the Arts industry. It is possible to enter your accounts with the www.kashflow.co.uk accounting package and have your costs bechmarked with similar firms. Web Services are used to share information between the two systems.

 

Addenbrooke's Hospital and Papworth Hospital

Pelican Computing wrote the Tissue Bank database that is in use at both Addenbrooke's and Papworth Hospitals.
Also at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Pelican Computing worked for the Clinical Gerontology Unit to design and support databases for a 5 year Vitamin D clinical postal trial of 2700 people. The results are published in the British Medical Journal with acknowledgement for Pelican Computing.
Pelican Computing designed and wrote the Addenbrooke's mortuary database.
 

Cambridge Colleges' Administrative Software Consortium (CASC)

CASC owns software for college administration.  Members include Clare, Christ's, Corpus Christie, Downing, Emmanuel, Gonville & Caius, Homerton, Jesus, King's, Lucy Cavendish, Magdalene, New Hall, Newnham, Pembroke, St Catharines, Trinity and St John's colleges. Pelican Computing wrote a web based payment system to help pay supervisors for their supervisions. Pelican Computing worked with CASC staff so that future developments can be caried out in-house.
Pelican Computing also assist Cambridge Colleges with all types of database queries.
